WHMIS Symbols

Below are hazard symbols for WHMIS 1988. Hazard symbols for WHMIS 2015 Symbols are in general similar to those of WHMIS 1988.

WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements of WHMIS are:

  • cautionary labelling of containers of WHMIS "controlled products"
  • provision of material safety data sheets (MSDSs)
  • worker education and training programs
